🌋 From Dreams to Degrees: My Journey & Saint Lucia’s Path to Sustainability

 A Deep Dive into Environment, Tourism, and Geothermal Energy

As a child growing up in Saint Lucia, I dreamt of becoming a Marine Biologist. The ocean fascinated me—its mystery, movement, and life. I imagined myself diving into coral reefs, studying marine species, and protecting the beauty that surrounded my island home.

Life, of course, had its own current. My journey took a different path but never too far from that original love for the environment.

Today, I hold a Master of Science in Energy and Environmental Management, along with a Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Environmental Planning and Management. And though I may not have become a marine scientist, I’m now using my voice and knowledge through this blog to continue the work I always felt called to do.

It’s only right that I begin this journey with the place that shaped me—my country of birth, Saint Lucia. This first official feature on Green Caribbean Chronicles is dedicated to the land I love and the environmental future we must build together.

🇱🇨 Saint Lucia’s Environmental Landscape: Paradise at a Crossroads

Saint Lucia is a gem in the Caribbean, home to breathtaking biodiversity—from the iconic Pitons to coral-rich coasts and lush inland forests. But our paradise is not untouched. We face real threats from:

  • Plastic pollution

  • Rising sea levels

  • Deforestation and loss of biodiversity

  • Fossil fuel dependency

These aren’t just ecological concerns—they’re deeply tied to our economy, health, and identity.

🏝️ Can Saint Lucia Redefine Sustainable Tourism?

Tourism is the backbone of Saint Lucia’s economy, but it also brings pressures—from overdevelopment to increased resource use. Sustainable tourism must be more than a buzzword—it must be our blueprint.

That means:

  • Supporting eco-lodges and green-certified resorts

  • Encouraging cultural and community-based tourism that benefits locals

  • Educating visitors on how to respect and preserve our natural spaces

  • Making conservation a key part of the tourist experience

We have a chance to position Saint Lucia as a leader in responsible tourism in the Caribbean.

🔥 Power From Within: Exploring Geothermal Energy

Our volcanic roots give us more than scenic views—they give us geothermal potential. Saint Lucia is exploring this clean, renewable source of energy buried beneath our soil.

Why it matters:

  • Geothermal energy is emissions-free and highly efficient

  • It can reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels

  • It supports our climate goals and creates green jobs

With careful investment and community engagement, this could be a game-changer for Saint Lucia’s energy future.

🌱 Purpose Reimagined: From Childhood Dreams to Regional Advocacy

Though I didn’t grow up to be a Marine Biologist, I never let go of that desire to protect and preserve. My academic path in energy and environmental management has brought me full circle—back to the islands, back to the issues that matter most.

Green Caribbean Chronicles is my way of giving back—through stories, knowledge, and action.

Saint Lucia is where my journey started, and it's where this blog begins. But the road ahead stretches across the Caribbean.
